Three children, including one seriously injured, were attacked with a knife at a daycare center in Zurich, Switzerland.
According to a spokesperson for the city’s police, a 23-year-old Chinese man assaulted a group of children being led to the center by a staff member.
A daycare worker and a bystander managed to subdue the attacker and held him until police arrived.
A five-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated in the hospital, while two other five-year-old boys received treatment at the scene for less severe injuries.
The police have not disclosed the motive behind the attack, which occurred shortly after noon local time near the Bernina shopping center in the Oerlikon area of northern Zurich.
Investigations are ongoing, and local media reported that heavily armed officers were guarding the scene on Tuesday afternoon, with a drone monitoring from above.
Swiss media outlet NZZ indicated that police also searched a residential building near the daycare, although it remains unclear if this operation was related to the attack.
